Visual Profile

About The Visual Profile

The Visual Profile was developed by Paulus Leonardus Looijestijn and offers a structured approach to evaluating visual impairments. The model is based on the ICF framework (International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health) and focuses on four key dimensions:

  1. Visual abilities - The capacity to perform visual tasks.
  2. Self-reliance - The extent to which an individual can function independently.
  3. Participation experience - The perception of social and daily participation.
  4. Specifically visual parenting - Adjustments in parenting to accommodate visual impairments.

Why is this important? The Visual Profile not only helps identify impairments but also better understands the needs of children and adolescents. It provides tools for:

  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Supporting parents and teachers
  • Developing policies that promote participation
